On 9th November 1977,

FOIV planted this Oak tree to replace the old Elm that had died from Dutch Elm disease.


It's position marks the corner between Iffley's most important mediaeval roads:

Church way and Tree lane + Ellesmere Road and footpaths that was the route from Iffley to Cowley St James
